Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das and Mahatma Gandhi were close associates and have brought about social change through innovative means. In the same noble spirit SUPREETAM (Kala Kendra of Dance, Music,Art and Social work) aspires not only to create and nurture talented Odissi dancers from the interior Odisha-Bengal border region with a view to provide dancing careers by promoting the various dance forms of the region. The every year Subarnnarekha Dance festival being conducted in D.P.PUR (West Bengal and Odisha border) is a significant endeavor to further the above.
Odissi owes its modern form to Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra who is credited with taking Odissi to new heights both internationally and in terms of creativity so much so that he is known as the Renaissance Man of Odissi. Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra’s art form continues to thrive through his many talented disciples.
One of his dedicated disciples Samir Kumar Behera, recipient of the National Scholarship and Gold medalist in Odissi dance is a graded artist in Doordarshan. He is now based in Delhi
Padmavibhushan Dr. Sonal Mansingh has initiated an award to support an artiste who has sacrificed his life for art and culture of India
